GSK Australia supports the Australian Red Cross Queensland and New South Wales Flood Appeal

In February, major flooding and dangerous conditions occurred across south-east Queensland and large portions of coastal New South Wales following intense rainfall and thunderstorms. While these conditions have now subsided, the recovery journey for affected communities has only just started.

Across the affected areas, more than 15,000 homes were flooded and many buildings are still without power.[1]

Australian Red Cross has set up an appeal to support affected communities in New South Wales and Queensland. GSK Australias proud to support the life-changing work of Red Cross with a $100,000 donation to the appeal. The donation comes at a time where recovery efforts are ramping up following the easing of conditions.

The funds raised from the appeal will help assist volunteers and staff with ongoing evacuation efforts, relief centre and outreach services, and support for ongoing recovery efforts and disaster relief.

“We are committed to supporting the communities affected by the 2022 floods in their recovery efforts,” said Patrick Desbiens, GSK Australia Managing Director.

“The recovery journey has only just begun, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to support Australian Red Cross in their ongoing disaster relief efforts to help people in need across southeast Queensland and New South Wales.”

Since the beginning of the flooding, Australian Red Cross has been able to raise $8.6 million for the appeal as of 22 March 2022. 1 The organisation has provided services across the affected areas and has been able assist over 11,745 people in Queensland and over 17,800 in NSW.

“Our heartfelt thanks to GSK for their generous support. Their contribution will help Red Cross to provide assistance to the people and communities that are struggling, through our immediate response in relief centres and recovery hubs, through cash assistance and helping us be there for the long term while people recover. We couldn’t do this without the support of people and organisations like GSK. Their support is a testament to what can be achieved in a crisis,” said Red Cross Director of Engagement and Support Belinda Dimovski.

GSK’s donation, along with all the other funds being raised for the appeal, will assist the Australian Red Cross teams in providing humanitarian support to those who need it. To support the appeal, visit:  https://www.redcross.org.au/donation/qld-and-nsw-floods-appeal-MD/
